At A Gift From China; Guangzhou's first Charity Shop, we are dedicated to helping the orphaned and abandoned children of China. All of our profits go towards helping these children through the work of The Good Rock Foundation (www.goodrock.org.uk) and other charities.

Mei Mei Mothers; the story of our dolls, they're special & so are their makers!25 women of Shaanxi busily knit our Mei Mei dolls & her big sister Jie Jie. Some of the ladies work from home so that they can be there for their families, others are able to work side by side in our countryside workshop. This small scale handicraft business is a lifeline of independence for these ladies. Many were formerly redundant and are thrilled to be back in the workforce helping to provide for their families. So, our beautiful Mei Mei collection is a delight for us and a blessing for these special ladies of Shaanxi. Children helped, children waitingMulati is a delightful 4 year old boy who sadly was abandoned in September last year. Mulati has some hearing problems & this may be why he was abandoned though we cannot know for sure. He lives in a remote city in NW China. Mulati is now in foster care where he has settled well. He cannot yet speak but his lively cheerful personality shines through. We would like to send Mulati to the provincial capital for hearing tests & on proper diagnosis a fitting for the most appropriate hearing aid. The expected cost is approximately US$1,500 Shi Yun He is a precious 4 month old girl, recently abandoned, she has disabilities though they are fairly mild and treatable. Yun He was visited by Good Rock Dr. Regula who has worked with us as a full time volunteer in China for 6 years now. Shi Yun He has a wry neck & hip dysplasia. The wry neck can easily be treated with therapy & her foster mother now has some home exercises to do with Yun He. Clinically this little girl has a problem of her right hip. The first step in treating hip dysplasia is using "wide diapers" and make sure the baby is always carried with her hips spread apart. As for the diapers, the easiest way to make them "wide"/ bulky is to use single use good quality nappies (in SHZ we found "Pampers", which are suitable) and put some extra cotton layers inside them, before putting them on. We bought a set of "pampers" and they were shown, how to put in the extra cotton.Shi Yun’s special diapers will cost 10rmb a day (US$1.30)

Charity InformationAll profit from A Gift From China goes to help children in China's orphanages. Less than 1% of children in China's orphanages are adopted. The Good Rock Foundation exists to serve those who remain; namely the older children and the disabled who will never know a family of their own. The Good Rock Foundation is Gift From China's host charity. Good Rock has been bringing vision compassion and action to children in China's orphanages since 1997. Our projects bring help in the form of foster care, education funding, medical relief, therapy for the disabled and more as needs arise. The Good Rock Foundation is a registered charity in the UK and Hong Kong.
